Green Monster Smoothie

canstockphoto14174376When Brain Health Champion Heather van Dyk wants to incorporate a nutritious and beneficial breakfast into her healthy lifestyle, she goes green – not by saving the environment, but by creating a delicious and healthful Green Monster Smoothie packed full of veggies and fruits. Below is the recipe. Try it out so you too can have a quick and tasty way to start off a healthy day!


  • 1 Banana
  • 1 handful Sunflower Greens
  • ½ C. Strawberries
  • 2 T. Greek Yogurt
  • 1 C. Water

In a blender, add the ingredients above in the order they are listed.  (Heather recommends starting with a banana to get everything moving).  Once you see it is blended perfectly, serve immediately. This will make two glasses, one for you and one to share.

OTHER OPTIONS: Heather switches up her greens every week, alternating between spinach, kale, and sunflower greens. As for fruit, this recipe uses strawberries, but you can also mixed it up with mangoes, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, peaches, plums, and papaya. The yogurt and banana are always included, and the sunflower greens were a special addition introduced by Glenn Davidson, a farmer who grows and sells fresh sunflower greens each weekend in Winter Garden and Downtown Orlando. Davidson can tell you all about the health benefits of sunflower greens, such as activating cells in the immune system, boosting fertility, and being packed full of amino acids and protein.
